Doctoral Psychology Practicum Student (Kids, Teens, Adults) - Burlington
Karen Catney is a doctoral psychology practicum student who provides counselling and assessment for kids, teens, and adults at our Burlington office. Her services are supervised by Dr. Carol-Anne Hendry, Psychologist. Karen is currently completing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Fielding Graduate University in California. She completed a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since 2005, Karen has worked as a psychometrist and registered psychotherapist, offering psychological interventions, therapies, assessments, and mental health services for children, teenagers, and adults.
As a result of over 23 years of working in child welfare and adult services, Karen has extensive experience working with individuals with complex needs, including individuals living in residential care. She has significant experience with children and adults with developmental disabilities, emotional and behaviour challenges, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. She also has experience working with individuals with Schizophrenia and Other Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar and Related Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders, Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders, and Dissociative Disorders. She has experience providing treatment for first responders, and police officers, with a special interest in active service members and veterans. Her aim is to complete her doctoral dissertation on the topic of Moral Injury in active service members and veterans.
